The goal of this module is to explore the benefits and challenges of local food from several perspectives to assess the impact of local food on people and the agricultural industry. We will begin by exploring the definition of local food to explain how and why individual definitions may vary. The popular 100-mile diet will be discussed. Next we will consider the influence of local food on environment, social, health, and economic factors. Details about finding local food at farmers’ markets and grocery stores will be provided along with career opportunities in local agriculture.
